Review of Díaz-Benitez y Figari (Orgs.) (2009) Prazeres Dissidentes
Abstract
This review aims to present and critically discuss the collection of works written by young Latin American researchers entitled Prazeres Dissidentes (Dissident Pleasures). The texts address the theme of sexuality in a wide variety of contexts, with pleasure and transgression as the common threads. We begin our presentation by focusing on the points that unite the various works, such as theoretical references, fields of knowledge, and methodologies used in the research. We then analyze the dispersing rays that further excite the reading of the work. In other words, we reflect on the set of texts by thematic blocks, highlighting what is referred to as “dissident” in each article. In summary, this collection encourages us to reflect on the possibility of depathologizing these dissident pleasures. It is an example of how sexuality can be analyzed simply from the point of view of pleasure.
