Caring in Teaching: Scoping Review
Abstract
The article presents a scoping review of caring in teaching, based on 16 empirical investigations published in the period 2017-2021. The review identified the main theoretical and methodological approaches to studying care, and the main themes and findings. It evidences the diversity in the ways of thinking about and practicing care work in teaching, and its role in the well-being of students, especially those who have been marginalized because of their race, gender and/or socioeconomic context. On the other hand, it is evident that in the work of caregiving there are contradictory emotions, and various barriers that have hindered it. The need to recognize the caregiving work of teachers and the need for co-responsibility for the care of children and adolescents is highlighted. Finally, a discussion is presented, closing with conclusions and projections to continue with the study in this field.
