Coffee and Another Autonomy Axes in Labor Inclusion

Authors

Abstract

Special Employment Centers (CET, in Catalan) are a strategy for the inclusion of people diagnosed with Severe Mental Illness into the work force, based on sheltered employment. My objective is to get to know the core ideas of the daily routine which promotes autonomy to the working life of this collective. The the-oretic framework evolves around Richard Sennett’s understanding of society’s comprehension of work and Autonomy. The methodological techniques were photo-elicitation and Isolated Participant Observation. I have divided my results into two parts. In the first part, I explore the use of the terms of the PSI disci-plines on behalf of the persons diagnosed. In the second part, I explore their routine in detail and its main components. My results allow me to conclude that labor life is not coerced by money, but neither is it motivated primarily by the job tasks themselves. There are many autonomy axes which revolve around the routine.
