Review of Rendueles (2013) Sociofobia

Abstract

Internet and new technologies are a hot topic nowadays, that is why this book appears to be a criticism of Cyberutopism and Internet-centrism; but this was already well done in 2011 by Evgeny Morozov (2011/2012), from whom the autor takes both concepts. On the contrary, the book only uses these points as an excuse to aim much further: to the nature of the social bound and the possibilities of emancipatory politics. New technologies are present in Cesar Rendueles' discourse because there is no social realm that escapes from their pervasive influence. However, that is not the main topic or issue. The real relevance of the book is related to the political nature of social and technological change.
