Memory and time in Deleuze: Multiplicity and production
Abstract
In this article we discuss the conceptions of memory and time in the philosophical work of Gilles Deleuze, investigating his contributions for a singular view on the memory as multiplicity and production. We carry out our reflection from a literature review on his work, seeking the main texts that deal with this problem. We present the three synthesis of time formulated by Deleuze, referenced in the concepts of habit of D. Hume, duration of H. Bergson and eternal return, as production of difference, of F. W. Nietzsche. The three synthesis of time generate the memory’s model as multiplicity and producer device of present and future. From this perspective, we criticize the anamnesic and restitutive model of memory, because, instead of restitution, it brings the features of experimentation, creation and production.
