Spanish adolescents' views of the uses and risks of new technologies

Abstract

What risks or threats do new technologies pose to adolescents -or, rather, how are such risks and threats perceived by the young people themselves? We interviewed more than 100 students, between 12 and 18 years old, in different regions of Spain. What emerge from these interviews are insights into new technologies' effects in terms of sociability, the generation of feelings of dependence, and their relation to education and health.

Doctora en Sociología. Profesora Ayudante Doctor en el Departamento de Sociología II de la Universidad de Alicante. Miembro del Instituto Universitario de Desarrollo Social y Paz de la misma universidad. Gran parte de sus artículos e investigaciones, así como su actividad docente, gira en torno a los Estudios de Género y la Sociología de la comunicación.

Cristina López Fernández, Universidad de Alicante

Doctora en Sociología. Profesora Titular de Escuela Universitaria en el Departamento de Sociología II de la Universidad de Alicante. Miembro del Instituto Universitario de Desarrollo Social y Paz de la citada universidad. Viene centrando su actividad investigadora en las siguientes áreas temáticas: técnicas de investigación aplicadas a las ciencias sociales, juventud y medioambiente.
