Political uses and representations: The Chef movie’s case and the dispute regarding The Latino Representaciones y usos políticos: el caso de chef y la disputa sobre lo latino Espinoza Rivera, Gabriel Esteban Grupo étnico Filmes Identidad Multiculturalismo Latino Ethnic Group Films Identity Multiculturalism Latino This essay is a case study over the film “Chef” (2014) by Jon Favreu. The film was chosen in order to analyze the intersections between identity and culture. At first glance, the essay centers its look into the film narrative, in order to show How the film has built up and managed the notion around what is the “Latino”. Then, a theoretical analysis goes deeper over the subject of “culture” and the historical construction of the meaning, as well as political references that surrounds the “Latino” imaginary, its administration and uses in the United States. Este artículo es un caso de estudio sobre el filme “Chef” (2014) de Jon Favreu. La película es abordada con el fin de analizar las intersecciones entre identidad y cultura. A primera vista, el ensayo centra su atención en la narrativa del film, buscando mostrar cómo ésta construye y administra la noción de lo “Latino”. Posteriormente, un análisis teórico profundiza sobre el tema de la “cultura” y la construcción histórica del significado y referencias políticas que rodean el imaginario de lo “Latino”, además de su administración y usos en los Estados Unidos.
