“Ese golpe que uno recibe”: Estudio cualitativo del diagnóstico reciente de VIH en hombres gay
Resumen
El virus de Inmunodeficiencia Humana (VIH) continúa siendo un problema de salud pública a nivel global. Aunque el VIH es una enfermedad crónica, los estigmas asociados continúan provocando en las personas problemas de salud mental y mala calidad de vida, particularmente en hombres gay, quienes deben enfrentar tanto el estigma asociado a su orientación sexual como al VIH. El objetivo de este estudio fue explorar significados asociados al reciente diagnóstico de VIH en hombres gay viviendo en Chile. Para ello, analizamos siete entrevistas realizadas a hombres recientemente diagnosticados con el virus, siguiendo los pasos de la Teoría Fundamentada. Los resultados consideran las vivencias de la sexualidad anteriores al diagnóstico de VIH, el proceso diagnóstico y la vida posterior a él. Se discute acerca de la presencia del virus en el mundo de hombres gay y el impacto del diagnóstico en sus vidas.
